St Mary's University College

Registration

The York Medical Practice manages the Health Centre at St Mary's University College. We advise all students residing on campus to register with us to ensure continuity of medical care. If you are living off campus you are welcome to join the Practice.

The main registration is in September when students first arrive at the campus. If you cannot register then, we can register you at a later date. Please download a College Health Registration form and a NHS Registration form, complete these and bring them with you to the College Health Centre.

Our Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Prescriber is qualified to deal with many medical issues and to authorise and sign prescriptions without reference to a Doctor. There may be some circumstances where it is better for you to attend the main surgery at St. John’s Health Centre (about 15 mins walk) as we have the equipment, medication and vaccines not available at the College.

Appointments

Reception is open between 8.00 am until 12.30 pm on Monday to Friday. Appointments are walk-in however, you can make a pre-booked appointment with the Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Prescriber or can make an appoitment to see a Doctor at the main Surgery. The College Health Centre is only open during term time.

Information

As a patient at the College Health Centre you will be registered with the York Medical Practice. This is separate and independent from other College services therefore, your medical records, consultations and subsequent treatments are strictly private and confidential.

All the usual NHS/GP services are freely available to registered patients, though you will have to pay for prescription charges unless you are still under 19 years or hold a current Exemption Certificate.

If you return to your home whilst on holiday within the United Kingdom and you require medical attention or advice then seek this help from your local Surgery. However, you need to apply as a Temporary Resident as you are already registered with the College Health Centre and therefore, you can access NHS services on a temporary basis without de-registering.

Medical

First year students please ensure that you have had your MMR vaccinations before you arrive at the College. If you have not checked your vaccination status then please let the Nurse know as soon as possible.
